A Final Word in Due Season
Dear Friends,
Since
1999, A Word in Due Season Online has delivered daily devotionals every
weekday—52 weeks a year. Each message was prayerfully written by my
mother, Mary F. Padgett, and sent free of charge to readers across many
nations and time zones. For over two and a half decades, these words of
encouragement, wisdom, and biblical truth flowed without fail, a labor
of love from Mary’s heart to yours.
This
morning June 27, 2025, she went on to join her Lord. She had been
courageously battling terminal cancer since her diagnosis on April 12,
2023. It was her express desire to keep that battle private, not
wishing to shift the focus from the promises of God that she so
faithfully shared each day. Even in her suffering, her greatest concern
remained your encouragement and growth in the Word.
I
want to take this moment to recognize the tireless dedication of my
wife, Sabrina Padgett, and brother, Nathan Padgett, who worked behind
the scenes for decades to make sure the messages were sent and posted.
Their commitment to her ministry made it possible for the words to
reach inboxes and hearts all over the world.
Just
a few weeks ago, as the effects of the illness progressed, Mary was no
longer physically able to type. For the first time (apart from rare
interruptions due to hurricanes), A Word in Due Season went silent.
Though
the daily emails have ceased, the light they carried continues. We
encourage you to visit the archives on our website and freely share
Mary’s writings with others. If you do, please include her name and
copyright information so that her voice and legacy remain preserved and
honored.
Mary
often said it was a privilege to share God’s word with you all. To her,
this ministry was an extension of the in-person teaching and mentorship
she had given for many years before email even existed.
I’m writing this message just hours after her passing, and in this moment, one scripture rises to the surface:
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant:
thou hast been faithful over a few things,
I will make thee ruler over many things:
enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
— Matthew 25:21
Yes, Mom. Enter into your rest and the joy of the Lord.
With deep gratitude and love,
George Padgett
